Developer Circles London is proud to announce a hackathon that is focused on building conversational AI for Facebook Messenger. This is a two day Hackathon that will take place at the Facebook HQ in London where you will be able to brainstorm, create and hack alongside experts from Facebook!
The goal of this Hackathon is to build intelligent chatbots on the Messenger Platform by the use of a PyTorch back-end.
The solution can cover any (useful) area of modern life. There are only two requirements:
1. Make the bot accessible through the Messenger Platform (in addition feel free to add other channels if you desire)
2. Let PyTorch power a significant part of the bot's intelligence.
Â
If you’re not familiar with either Messenger Chatbots or PyTorch, fear not! We’ll make sure to prepare you by sending relevant training materials ahead of time and we will provide workshops and guidance throughout the event.
Â
Prizes:Â
We have some very cool prizes lined up for the winning team members. We will announce the prizes at the beginning of December.
PyTorch is an open source  machine learning library.  PyTorch integrates with Python, making the coding simple and easy. It is one of the fastest growing machine learning frameworks.
Facebook Messenger is a messaging app and platform that can be built on.  The platform allows us to use a set of APIs and tools to create interactive applications and bots inside the Facebook Messenger app.Â
This is really up to you and your imagination. We are hoping to see all sorts of inventive ideas that mix the abilities of machine learning and messenger. We are intentionally trying not to give you too much guidance as we don’t want to influence your creativity! However, just to make it a little bit easier, here is one of the ideas that one of the teams will be working on:Â
Problem
I walk past a historical statue or a building and I want to know more info about it.
Solution
The ability to take a picture of the object using messenger and analyse it using machine learning so we can surface useful information about it to the user .
